Sure, it’s fun to watch for the contestant from your state when the Miss America pageant comes on TV. But you could send her off to Atlantic City with in-person well wishes before the pageant ever gets under way.

Jennifer Smestad, a.k.a. Miss Arizona 2013, will compete in the Miss America 2014 Competition, scheduled to air live at 9 p.m. Sept. 15 on ABC.

Before then, Smestad will present her official Miss America wardrobe and talent at a “Back to the Boardwalk” event in Tempe.

The event includes light refreshments, a silent auction, prizes, and entertainment. Attendees will be able to meet Smestad and Miss Arizona Outstanding Teen, Maddie Rose Holler.

The event is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Redemption Tempe church, 2150 E. Southern Ave. The cost is $15, and all proceeds benefit the Miss Arizona Scholarship Pageant and the charity Winged Hope.
