In the first production since winter break, Desert Vista High School’s theater is preparing for its production of four, one-act plays directed entirely by senior actors.

“Senior One Acts,” which is comprised of four small plays, are directed by five seniors and one Desert Vista theater alum. They will premiere Jan. 30 at the school’s Black Box Theater.

Theater president Jade Roeder said the actors are excited, and the overall energy for these productions are lighter.

“There’s a lot more actors involved too, so it’s fun to meet new people,” Roeder said.

The one acts include a drama, titled “Empty Glass,” and three comedies, titled “Unusually Dumb Suspects,” “Family 2.0,” and “ID.”

The plays are open to the community Wednesday, Jan. 30 through Feb. 1.

Director and teacher Kenny Fajman said the less traditional one-acts are fun because of the style of comedy.

“When I do a normal, straight play the comedy will build,” said Fajman, who approves all of the one-acts beforehand. “This is in-your-face comedy.”

“Empty Glass,” the production’s drama is unique to the usually comedic one-acts and was written by student and director Ethan Hoover’s mother.

Auditions for the production began before winter break, and rehearsals began immediately after classes resumed, with actors preparing everyday for two hours after school.

“I find it a nice tool to work with my advanced acting class,” Fajman said.

Usually, Fajman only allows about three one-acts during the annual spring productions, but admitted that these four we’re just outstanding.

“I couldn’t say no, and they are quite unique,” he added.

Desert Vista High School is located at 16440 S. 32nd St. Tickets for “Senior One Acts” will be available at the door for $5.
