As teenagers growing up in Northern Nevada, Brad and Tracie Rogers thought they would end up spending their lives together.

They probably didn't figure on being business partners, too.

Now, they have raised two daughters and a dream called The BAR School of Athletic Performance, which was voted the "Best Mom and Pop Business" in the Ahwatukee Foothills.

While Brad was playing baseball at Texas Christian University, Tracie was working on her psychology degree at the University of Arizona and a doctorate in sports exercise psychology at Arizona State University, they made cross-country visits to each other and planned their future.

"After my third year of playing baseball at TCU I realized I had to figure out what I wanted to do in life in case baseball didn't work out, so I decided to go into fitness in general," explained Brad, who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology.

"Tracie was getting her PhD. at ASU so we were going to only be here for a year and then we were going to move on, but we dug ourselves in pretty strong," Brad added. "I like working with athletes and the general population as well, but they are two different styles."

A storefront they opened in the Basha's Shopping Center on Warner Road east of 48th Street in 2004 has grown into a hands-on and personal fitness facility that opened in 2007."I didn't know what I would be doing, but the fitness industry sucked me in because

I became extremely conscious about a health crisis in this country because we are not active," said Tracie, who has her PhD. in kinesiology with a focus on sport and exercise psychology.

Together they bring the energy of a workout to their field.

"We never had any doubt we could make it work," Tracie said. "When we started having an impact we realized we had the power to create something unique and focus on making it more than people expect."

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
