Horizon Hiker's outing at North Mountain Park: Meet at 8 a.m. at Horizon Presbyterian Church, 1401 E. Liberty Lane, to carpool. The group will hike the 1.6-mile loop North Mountain National Trail. The rise and fall of the terrain give this relatively short trail the feel of a much longer expedition. The hike is rated moderate to strenuous. The trail climbs one side of North Mountain, passes outcrops of black, broken volcanic rock, offers splendid views of downtown Phoenix and Piestewa Peak, shows off the local desert flora and fauna, and then drops down the other side of the mountain. The concert reaches and involves the entire family from the elementary age to the elderly with excellence, charm and transparent humor. East Valley Purim Carnival: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Temple Emanuel of Tempe, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe. Features games, rides, food, costumes and a petting zoo. Purim, the celebration of Queen Esther saving her people from the evil decrees of Haman as told in the biblical Book of Esther, is traditionally a time for costumes, laughter and carnivals. It's also traditionally the time for hamantaschen, the dessert-shaped-like evil Haman's tri-cornered hat - hamantaschen will be available to sample. Miscellaneous
Community donation center: Ahwatukee Assembly of God, 11832 S. Warner Elliot Loop, collects clothing, furniture and used items from the community. Residents can drop off any items they would like to donate or call the church volunteers to pick up. All items will be collected and then sold at fundraising garage sales through the church. Miscellaneous
Community donation center: Ahwatukee Assembly of God, 11832 S. Warner Elliot Loop, collects clothing, furniture and used items from the community. Residents can drop off any items they would like to donate or call the church volunteers to pick up. All items will be collected and then sold at fundraising garage sales through the church.
