Fuel your face: Feeding your skin equals healthy skin

Special to the Ahwatukee Foothills News

We are living in an age where we do not want to age.

People today are living longer and longer thanks to modern medicine and technology, so I believe we just want to look as young as we feel!

Why not? Women and men have ceaselessly searched, since the beginning of time, for the fountain of youth, the magical cream and the wrinkle cure.

The truth, in my opinion of course, is simply nutrition. The saying "We are what we eat" may be closer to the truth than we realize. I have seen and personally experienced that a healthy diet equals healthy skin.

You may be familiar with the current buzzword "antioxidants," and those crazy free radical things, but what really matters is very clear-cut and trouble free - eat!

I think the earth was created with everything we would possibly need and more. The skin needs uncomplicated nutrients such as vitamin C, E and A to continue a healthy rate of cellular metabolism. You can find these nutrients in high concentrations in citrus fruits, watermelon and berries. Pomegranate fruit and blueberries are a potent dose of antioxidants that actually produce the synthesis of collagen production, free in your snack rather than a $400 doctor visit.

A habit of consuming wonderful and fabulous fruits and vegetables are essential, but more so applying them topically! Only a percentage of the nutrients consumed by the body are applied to the skin so infusing them is more beneficial.

Applying nutrients topically to the skin allows your skin to absorb the antioxidants directly from the source. There are many treatment protocols available through professional skin care therapists that are packed with powerful skin nutrients as well as many professional home care products you can use to supplement your skin care needs.

In my product picks I have recommended the following antioxidant support, home care products:

- Antioxidant fruit extracts by Pure Inventions

Blueberry and White tea provide super antioxidant support in an oral supplement that also tastes nice $39.95, pureinventions.com.

- Skin food by WELEDA

A cream made from all natural resources is crammed full of phyto/plant nutrients to help achieve a healthy appearance of skin. $15, usa.weleda.com.

- Rhonda Allison Super "C" Serum SCS - Serious Collagen Support

A serum with antioxidant and peptide manufacturers that sends signals to proteins for collagen biosynthesis. $55, Rhondaallison.com.

WHO Cares About Swine Flu
The World Health Organization has declared its first influenza pandemic in 40 years. Does this concern you?
I'm stocking up on hand sanitizer and Theraflu as we speak.
I'm not that concerned. Swine flu doesn't seem much more deadly than the regular flu.
Is swine flu still a thing?
