Library Friends award grants to 3 students

The Friends of the Phoenix Library, Ironwood Branch, awarded $1,000 book grants to Emile Gordon, Erik Stout and Joanna Yang on Monday, May 12. The students, seniors at Desert Vista High School, will use the grant awards to purchase college textbooks and have selected state universities to attend in the fall.

The Board of Friends at the Ironwood Library choose the recipients based on their academic achievements through four years of high school, as well as their involvement in community service, especially at the library. All three students are officers of the Teen Council at the library and have been actively planning teen programs for the youths in Ahwatukee Foothills over the past few years. They also serve the community in different capacities with their participation in local organizations.
