As a crafter for more than 10 years now, I've learned there is something special about making it from your heart. There are thousands of homemade projects to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites.
- Altering is making old things new again. A thrift store picture makes a perfect alterable project. Make sure that the frame is in good condition, that it can be taken apart and put back together. Spray paint the frame, cover the picture with scrapbook or wrapping paper, photographs, then add some embellishments on the outside of the glass. Tear out letters out of old magazines for the word you would like to use.
- Mini-Scrapbooks are fun keepsakes. This can be as simple as taking 4-inch-by-4-inch card stock and placing photos on the card stock. Add some stickers and ribbons if you would like. Put as many pages together as you want. Don't forget to name and date the photos. Once you are done, punch two holes on the left and put key rings on the sides. Add some ribbons on the key rings to dress the rings up some and you are done.
- Calendars keep giving all year long, every month is a new treat. Customize each calendar by making it personal. If you use online photo ordering you can order calendars with your photos on them. Another option is to print out calendars from online calendar programs and make your own with photos from years past. There are scrapbooking calendar kits available in many sizes. All make perfect gifts!
You are guaranteed to please friends, grandmas and grandpas this holiday season with homemade gifts. The time and energy just gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling whether you are the giver or the receiver - just trust me!
For these projects the paper, buttons and embellishments can be found at Michaels Crafts stores or your favorite craft store.
