Team THRIVR raises funds at golf tourney
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jen Hoffmann has beaten breast cancer ... again.
The Ahwatukee Foothills resident was first diagnosed in 2000 but, after a seven-year remission, she was diagnosed once again last summer.
"They found cancer in both ovaries," Hoffmann said. "And (the tumors) were enormous. It was like walking around with two oranges in there."
Hoffmann began chemotherapy Aug. 1, and after successfully completing 20 weeks of treatment, had both ovaries removed in January.
"As of my most recent scan, there is no cancer left," Hoffman said Friday.
Throughout her battle with breast cancer, Hoffmann and her husband Greg have been avid participants of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day, and this year will mark her fifth year of walking 60 miles over the course of three days in the annual event.
"This year, I hope to have a full head of hair for the walk, but either way I have an amazing team of family and friends walking beside me as well as the ones that support me from the sidelines," Hoffmann said.
Additionally, Hoffmann's team, known as Team THRIVR, will be doing their fundraising a little differently by holding a golf tournament.
"It was started by two of our team members, Barb and Renee, who we met two years ago at the 3-Day," Hoffmann said. "Barb called me and said, ‘I have a really great idea.' The Links at Queen Creek gave us the golf course for free and will donate all the money raised to the 3-Day."
The golf tournament will be held at 9 a.m. May 31. The fee is $65, is tax-deductible, and includes green fees, carts, practice green and balls, a small goody bag and the opportunity to win prizes.
Slots are limited and are first-come, first-served.
To register, mail checks payable to Breast Cancer 3-Day to Jen and Greg Hoffmann, 3305 E. Wildwood Drive, Phoenix, 85048, by May 24. Include the name of each foursome player.
The Links at Queen Creek is located at 445 E. Ocotillo Road.
