MCC names new faculty president

The Maricopa Community College Faculty Association has announced Jim Simpson as its next president. Simpson's experience will guide the association through a turbulent time of budget cuts and increasing student enrollment to protect the value placed on higher education, academic freedom and faculty rights.

Simpson is a professor of computer information systems and business at Scottsdale Community College and has been with the Maricopa Community College District since 1998. Jim is a CPA. and received a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Arizona State University in 1987 and earned a Masters in Taxation from ASU in 1992. He will also be receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish this summer from ASU while working towards his PhD in education from Walden University.

AMA wins national award for outreach

The Arizona Multihousing Association (AMA), the statewide trade group for the Arizona rental housing industry, is the 2009 recipient of the National Apartment Association (NAA) PARAGON Community Service Award for its Big Hearts for Little Hands community outreach program, which helps provide homeless families, women and children with much-needed shelter and services at four state housing facilities.

The AMA received recognition during a special ceremony at the NAA Education Conference and Expo held June 25-27 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
