Eugene (Gene) H. Auten

Ahwatukee Foothills resident Eugene Auten, 77, passed away Nov. 22, 2009, with family at his side at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe.

Eugene was born May 6, 1932, to Henry Omer and Hilda (Kort) Auten in Ayr, Neb. He attended Roseland High School. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954.

Eugene was an excellent farmer and served on many church boards and various other committees. He enjoyed family very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Donald and William. Survivors include wife, LaVelle; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Sherri Auten and Greg and Ann Auten, all of Ayr, Neb.; and daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Bill Schreck of Hampton, Iowa. Other survivors include step-children, Lynette and Rick LaFond, Mitch and Anne Krueger, Dave and Jackie Krueger and Crissa and Tom Snider; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St.

Jeannie Delude

Ahwatukee Foothills resident Jeannie Delude, 49, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 7, 2009. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Ken Ramer. Her family – mother, Lois; daughters, Aly and Mindy; brother, Mark; sisters, Kathy and Tammy; and many others in her home state of Oregon – will forever smile at the thought of her memory.

Jeannie’s legacy will forever live on in the generosity, patience, compassion and knowledge she so openly gave, never expecting anything in return. Her thrill for NASCAR, bodybuilding, country music, quad riding, drum playing and coin collecting barely defined her. Her true purpose in this life seemed to be her willingness to help others in need. As Jeannie would say, “It’s my blessing, don’t take it from me.”

A celebration of her life will be held at Brad’s Place (formerly Venice Restaurante) at 48th Street and Elliot from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27.

Lynn Dean Larsen

Lynn Dean Larsen passed away Nov. 18, 2009, in a Scottsdale hospital at the age of 62 surrounded by family and friends. He lost the battle from the H1N1 flu complications.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Mooney, of Ahwatukee Foothills; a son, Mark Larsen of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Andrew, Peyton and Mitchell; a sister, Doris Hedgcock, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a step-daughter, Shauna Wolynia, and children, Hailey, Cambry and Gavin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Frances Larsen.

He was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on May 22, 1947. His childhood was spent in the Elk Horn, Iowa, community where he attended his first years of school, until he moved to Colorado Springs in 1959. He attended East Junior High School and graduated from Wasson High School in 1965, going on to junior college and Blair Business College.

He was employed at Coca Cola Co. in Colorado Springs for 17 years before he moved to Phoenix, where he continued to work for Coca Cola from 1986 until a major accident in 1992. He remained living in the Phoenix area where he had rental properties and worked at CrossRoad Services until his disability two years ago from a stroke.

A “Life Celebration” in Remembrance of Lynn was held at Lynn and Cheryl’s home on Nov. 22. Cards may be sent to 4327 E. Amberwood Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85048 for his family.

Neva Terry

Neva Elizabeth (Bouse) Terry was born May 16, 1922, in Dunbar, Neb., to Cora (Harry) and Orville Bouse and died Nov. 18, 2009, at age 87. She was the fourth child of 10 brothers and sisters.

Neva graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Nursing and became head nurse of Sacramento General Hospital’s Neonatal Department at just 18.

Escaping Idaho’s winters to retire in Phoenix, Neva became a top-flight, trophy-winning leader of her “dirty-dozen” golfing gang at the Ahwatukee Country Club.

She is survived by her children, Colleen Bell of Fairfield, Iowa; Tim Terry of Boise, Idaho; Tina Terry, granddaughter, Kera McCandless and son-in-law Jett McCandless of Bellevue, Wash.; grandson Nathan Scott of Seattle and Bellevue; and five sisters.
