ORTHODONTICS ||| \"Can adults have orthodontic orthodontic treatment?\"

Dr. Ken Danyluk of Team Orthodontics, P.C., joins us to offer readers advice on youth and adult orthodontic needs and care.

[Question] ||| "Do I need a referral from my general dentist to see an Orthodontist for treatment?"

[Answer] ||| "No. Your choice of an Orthodontist is the same that you make in choosing your dentist. The orthodontist should be an individual that has a wealth of experience in his or her field, communicates well with you and any other healthcare providers that involve your individual dental concerns and is approachable for you to ask any questions that you may have. Your treatment is a team approach between you, your orthodontist, your dentist and any other specialists involved. As such, your orthodontist should have the experience to understand and communicate your over-all dental needs with you and the rest of the treatment team. In additions, be sure to ask about the orthodontists credentials; not all have the same degree of training and expertise. Take your time, ask questions of the orthodontist and his staff and feel comfortable with your decision before embarking on that new smile!"
