[Question] ||| "H1N1, seasonal flu, or a cold? What symptoms should bring me to urgent care?"

[Answer] ||| "H1N1 and seasonal flu share most of the same symptoms and are indistinguishable on the basis of symptoms alone.  Symptoms may include:

fever cough sore throat runny or stuffy nose body aches headache chills fatigue sometimes diarrhea and vomiting A cold will usually manifest only with a runny or stuffy nose, a mild cough and possibly a mild sore throat, but is unlikely to be associated with the remainder of the symptoms described above.  The majority of patients with influenza will have mild illness and are best treated at home with symptomatic measures such as rest, fluids and ibuprofen.  Some people are more likely to get flu complications, especially children less that 2 years old, people over 65 and those with underlying chronic medical problems.

Warning signs that should prompt evaluation by a physician include:

fast breathing or difficulty breathing bluish skin color in children poor fluid intake pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen fever with a rash sudden dizziness or confusion severe or persistent vomiting children that are inconsolable or do not interact If you or family should experience any of the above symptoms, seek prompt evaluation from a personal physician or one of our experienced urgent care physicians."
