Ahern shoots in competition at Rawhide

Ahwatukee Foothills resident Peggy Ahern loves to ride horses and shoot guns.

She is a member of Arizona Cowboy Mounted Shooters Association – The Old West Competing with Guns on Horseback. Cowboy Mounted Shooting, one of the fastest-growing equestrian sports in the nation, was founded in Arizona and represents the state’s Western heritage. The family-friendly sport consists of riders and shooters ranging from ages 12 up to 75. In this fast-action timed event using single-action revolvers with specially-prepared blank ammunition, riders shoot balloons set in a variety of patterns. The sport is spectator friendly with participants wearing period Western clothing.

Ahern will participate in a Cowboy Mounted Shooting competition starting at 10 a.m. Feb. 21 at Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass, 5700 W. North Loop Road, Chandler.

Robertin in cast of Beauty IS a Beast

Burns-It-Up, a nonprofit organization in Chandler, will present its first production, Beauty IS a Beast, at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 and 27 at Hope Covenant Church, 1770 S. Dobson Road, Chandler.

The cast consists of children ages 6 to 16 from across the East Valley, including Ahwatukee Foothills resident Zachary Robertin.

Beauty might be beautiful on the outside, but she’s ugly on the inside – see what happens when her fairy godmother turns her inside out! Based on Shakespeare’s comedy, Taming of the Shrew, child actors bring this classic tale to life in a contemporary re-telling.

Tickets, $8 general admission and $5 for children age five and under, are available at info@burnsitup.com or by calling (480) 332-7914. Proceeds will benefit relief efforts in Haiti and support the Chandler theater group.
