Q&A with The Pool Girls

Q: Why did you decide to open your own business?
A: I have been in the pool maintenance business for 14 years. I started my own business because I wanted to be my own boss and set my own hours and schedule. I also enjoy providing a service that helps remove some of the stress of owning a pool, so people can enjoy a maintenance-free pool.
Q: What services does your business offer?
A: We offer everything from weekly pool service to repair service.
Q: What are some common mistakes you see people make in caring for their pools?
A: People back wash their DE filters without replacing DE powder, which will damage the grids in their filters. Also, people let the water level get too low and that can burn up their motors. Sometimes they won’t empty their pump and skimmer baskets often enough, which hinders the flow of water in the system and puts a strain on the motor. The life of the motor is, therefore, shortened. The list goes on.
Q: Have you seen your customers cut back their pool maintenance due to the economy?
A: Yes, which bothers me because pools have to be maintained. I hope people keep in mind that my services are some of the lowest fees in Ahwatukee for pool service. Also, we can customize our service to fit our clients financial needs.
Q: How is your business different from other pool maintenance businesses?
A: I feel that my employees are very friendly and personable. We care about our clients and their needs, and we provide the best services at the lowest rate. I have been told by more than one client that people feel more comfortable with a female in their backyard, and all of my “pool girls” are women. We will never make a repair without authorization from our clients, and without discussing their options. We look out for our clients’ best interests.
Q: What does your business have in store for the future?
A: Down the road we will expand our Web site and offer helpful hints on maintaining your pool, ways to cut costs and information on how to handle your pool during the summer months. I know pools are the farthest thing from people’s minds during the holidays and the winter months, but try to remember The Pool Girls in March or April.
