I have been a student in the Kyrene School District for over eight years, attending both Monte Vista Elementary and, currently, Altadeña Middle School. As a concerned seventh-grade student, I ask you to vote yes on the "Kyrene Teaches with Technology" override. It will renew funding for the technology we use every day in school. Technology, such as SMART Boards, efficient computers, and software like MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, can continue to be used in Kyrene schools if this override is passed.
Not only does technology help students connect and better understand new material, but it is also a huge asset to education, and can greatly improve learning progress.
SMART Boards were to replace all Kyrene chalkboards and whiteboards, however, they have been added to fewer than a quarter of the classrooms in Kyrene schools. Many students do not have access to this very practical resource. A SMART Board is basically a digital whiteboard that is eco-friendly, and economical in the long-run as opposed to traditional whiteboards. It can create models, maps, and other tools that produce visual images enhancing students' understanding of new concepts. Anything written on a SMART Board can be saved, moved and/or manipulated, making it ideal for note-taking and group collaboration. SMART Boards can also connect to a computer, reducing the upkeep and expense of projectors, screens, and markers.
There are so many pros to "Kyrene Teaches with Technology," that can enhance the education of this generation, and for generations to come. Please, vote yes!
