George Temores, owner of Prodigy Fitness, has a simple philosophy: train your mind, and work your body.

It is this philosophy that allows people to achieve results, and has made Prodigy a favorite among locals since its opening in October.

Temores is a self-proclaimed workout fanatic who began training at the early age of 12. But after a game of basketball gone wrong years later, Temores was changed forever.

He ruptured two disks within his back, and was bedridden for eight weeks. He lost his house and car, but did not allow these setbacks to get him down.

He enrolled in correspondence courses to become a certified trainer, and began work at a local health club where he rehabbed himself back into shape.

It is this experience that drove Temores to become a different type of trainer and create an environment that focused on the individual's needs.

"Prodigy caters more towards the average person, but we can take them anywhere they want to go," Temores said. "The name of the game is that we're trying to offer affordable personal training."

Open seven days a week, Prodigy has three trainers on staff, and features both standard workout machines and free weights.

A typical training session is 45 minutes to an hour long, which Temores describes as "high energy and very, very fun."

Prodigy features one-on-one training, along with both shared and group alternatives. Shared training consists of two to three people, while the boot camp-style group training ranges from four to 15 people.

Temores believes that achievement comes from a positive mental focus, and has been able to assist his clientele in achieving miraculous results.

He remembers a woman who had been trying to get pregnant for 11 years and sought help from fertility doctors with very little success. After losing 75 pounds training with Temores, she is now the proud parent of a baby girl.

While Prodigy has a limited amount of return clients, Temores offers valuable advice to ensure that everybody has a healthy 2012.

"You have to have a plan," Temores said. "A surefire way of failing your goal is, ‘I want to lose weight.'

"If it's not specific, that'd be like going to college without a specific goal in life."

Prodigy Fitness is located at 4302 E. Ray Road, Suite 107 in Ahwatukee. Visit their website at www.prodigypt.com, or call (480) 466-5311.

Patrick Ryan is interning this semester for the Ahwatukee Foothills News. He is a sophomore at Arizona State University.
