First Lt. Corey Harris, a candidate for Legislative District 18 covering Ahwatukee Foothills, south Tempe and west Chandler, has praised the Gila River Indian Community’s voter initiative to keep the proposed Loop 202 freeway extension out of Ahwatukee.

“I’m extremely pleased the Gila River Indian Community submitted the necessary signatures to protect our schools, our churches, our communities, the South Mountain Park, and our families’ backyards,” Harris said.

Harris has pledged that, if elected, he’ll directly work with the Gila River Indian Community, the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Arizona Department of Transportation officials to keep the Loop 202 out of Ahwatukee Foothills.
