Current City Councilman Sal DiCiccio of Ahwatukee said his re-election campaign has raised more than $100,000 and has over $145,000 cash on hand.

“It was important to me for our campaign to hit the ground running,” DiCiccio said in a statement. “I am grateful for the support and look forward to working with my colleagues on the council to continue tackling the tough issues facing our city.”

DiCiccio has set a goal of $300,000. He has seven fundraisers scheduled for February with more on the way, according to a statement from his campaign. DiCiccio also has more than 50 volunteers ready to knock on doors.

Signatures were collected in 2011 in an attempt to recall DiCiccio. Andrew Chavez, owner of Petition Partners, said the needed signatures were gathered with ease, but at the end of the day the group against DiCiccio decided the cost for a special election was too high. The signatures were never turned in.

According to the city’s election website,, no candidates have filed a “Notice of Candidacy” or registered a “Candidate Committee” for District 6.

Feb. 28 is the earliest date for an elector to sign a petition for nomination. June 8 is the latest date for the city clerk to prepare a list of names of candidates who have filed petitions. The final list of candidates will be certified on Aug. 2. The election will take place Aug. 24-27 at the city’s voting centers.
