1st place: Cody Wood – CK’s Tavern and Grill
At CK’s Tavern and Grill, Cody Wood said he is able to form friendships with the customers who in turn voted him “Best Waiter.”
“Since it’s not a corporate-owned place, I think it allows us to be more personable and be more of ourselves rather than having to be guarded,” he said.
Wood said knowing his customers on a more intimate level is probably what earned him the most votes. In fact, he said he is neighbors with some of his regulars.
“It probably helps that I’ve been here for so long, and I know everybody,” Wood said. “We’re a big team here, so everybody else definitely played a role.”
Wood has been working at CK’s Tavern and Grill for the past seven years.
He first got the job busing tables through his Desert Vista lacrosse coach, who was working at the restaurant as a manager at the time.
Wood continued working at CK’s while studying at Arizona State University. Now graduated from college, he hopes to get a job as a firefighter someday. But for now he’s happy at CK’s.
“I think it’s pretty cool and it’s definitely an honor. Thank you for voting for me. Last year I got third so I’m glad they made the right choice this year and put me at No. 1,” Wood said. jokingly.
